Hellenic Midwives Association is a legal entity and the official professional institution of all midwives that live and work in Greece. It is divided into 9 associations that are activated in different regions of the country. From these 9 associations, Athens Midwifery Council is the main one.

Hellenic Midwives Association is a member of World Health Organization, European Midwives Association and International Confederation of the Midwives.

All midwives in order to practice their profession are required to be registered in Midwives’ Associations.

Hellenic Midwives Association supports, represents and works to strengthen midwives on a national basis. At present has over 6000 members representing midwifery profession in Greece. The Hellenic Midwives Association works with midwives and midwifery associations globally to secure women’s rights and equal access to midwifery care before, during and after childbirth. Evidence is growing that shows expanding midwifery care is one of the best ways to combat maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity.
